Thanks for letting a sister roll...

Keep it pimpin'

Monday, April 03, 2006

A certain acquaintance of mine took it upon himself to sign me up for a 5k race without exactly consulting me beforehand. After my enjoyably experience in the Longport American (1) Mile, I floated the idea of participating in a real race, but I sort of figured on having more than the ~1 month of training time I'm going to have before this May 7 race. Keep in mind I just recently made the leap from "will vomit after 2 continuous miles of running" to "able to hit 2-mile mark without thoughts of dying, " and this really only came about after bf's promise that I would "look like a supermodel" if I ran 2 miles every day. (Josea [pronounced Joe-Zay] at the gym already thinks I'm a supermodel, but I suspect he is influenced by his interest in selling membership packages and gym paraphenalia.)

I know the 3.1-mile length of this race is not really a big deal, but I have never once in my life for any reason ran more than 2.2 miles. I may not have even walked 3 miles before. And most daunting is the knowledge that I will have to be awake and active before 8am on a Sunday. Yikes, the more I write about this, the less I'm looking forward to it.

At least it's for a good cause---brain tumor research (I'm not actively trying to raise money, but if anyone wants to sponsor me, go right ahead)---and I hear post-race booty is well worth the entrance fee.
