It was the best of ideas, it was the worst of ideas: Nomadic Night in New York 2005. With a plan that involved a big night out in NYC, return to DC by noon Saturday, and nowhere to sleep, the chances of success should have seemed slim. And around 8:30 when we were barely hitting Delaware 3 hours after intended departure, my compadres and I started thinking maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. However, just a few hours later, after finishing our respective contraband drinks, we burst out of Port Authority with the world at our fingertips. We then proceeded to party the night away, surprising the birthday girl and wearing out our dancing shoes, even though bars in NY apparently don't play hip hop after 3 lest their guests become so intent on dancing that they forget to drink. Unfortunately said bars actually do close, so we had to rustle up some pizza (which I forgot about until I tried to eat Saturday and realized I'd burned all the skin off the roof of my mouth) and head to Nicole's, where we stopped moving and inevitably fell asleep, ruining the party til the break of day part of the plan. But when we woke up an hour and a half later to depart for Port Authority we were still just as miserable as we'd be had we stayed up all night. Plus, Port Authority was filled with delightful instructions like "Information Booth closed. Proceed to booth located at X", X being the exact booth we had just come from which directed us to the booth we were looking at. But I found my gate and soon was off to Atlantic City with the elderly knitters and toothless gamblers. As always, an exciting time in New York that once again confirmed my feelings that living there would be just as miserable as it would be fun. Maybe one day I'll find out.

They don't play hiphop too late? That sucks if you just want to dance; what do they play instead?

In the dj's defense, he was still playing dancey sing along (bon jovi etc...) type songs, but still.
