School Dayz
I'm afraid I'm going to have to jump on the bandwagon and announce that posting is probably going to slow down now that I'm not only not in front of a computer all day but also more importantly busy with homework at night. I'll do my best though, as I'm sure there will be many good stories, especially as the school year gets underway.
Being in a classroom Monday morning was very strange, but not as foreign as expected after being away for 3 years. The majority of students are my age, with a some right out of college and a few older. I'm in class for a full work day, but it's amazing how much more stressful it is than being at a desk, especially in this program where, as preparation for being in front of a classroom, everyone's always being called on and asked to participate. There's not much down time, and since an entire course is being condensed into 4 weeks time for completed assignments is also condensed into, say, a week to complete something like a 40 min presentation. But the first 2 days have been fairly enjoyable, except for all the discussion about how unlikley it is that anyone will have a class with more than a handful of literate students.
Moving on, is it possible the NBA Finals are fixed? Each year, I'm less and less surprised when one team appears to have the upper hand and the other team evens it up to extend the series. I remember during the Jordan era when my parents would suggest the series were fixed and I'd be crushed/absolutely certain they were wrong, but too many games have just seemed too fishy in recent years. I'm not the only one to think this, but I also can't conceive of players and coaches actually being involved in planned rigging. With the way the media is today it'd be near impossible to accomplish this year after year without getting caught, and if anyone was ever caught the already fragile league would be destroyed. But there is something questionable about the refing. Perhaps you could say there have been more controversial calls in the finals because there's more attention on these games and no one pays attention to regular-season refing, but it seems like the league could find a way, after 60 years, to find officials that, if nothing else, are not so blatant about giving superstars more calls than other players. And then there's the bizarre switch to 2-3-2 format only in the finals, which clearly encourages longer series. Either way, I see the Mavs pulling it out in 7.
UPDATE: So much for the prediction. I'm shocked. Watching the postgame, I'm glad GP and Zo have a championship, but the Mavs deserved it more in my opinion. Who would have guessed Wade would be the first from his class to get a championship/MVP?? (Wait, he has a wife and a son??) Also, who's bright idea is it to put reporters on the floor seconds after the game to try to serious interviews?
PS: I'm disappointed in Jay-Z for pimping HP. I don't believe that that's really him in the commercial.

Wow, this post repeated many of my thoughts during this past week.
1. Summer classes are a bitch.
2. I couldn't help but think something was going on with the calls, but I wasn't sure if I was just biased. At least for last night's game, Dirk wasn't even hitting open shots.
3. Obviously everyone in Dallas expected that the Mavs would win, but I'm glad even others agree.
4. I was shocked that Wade has a wife and kid. An informant told me he was married during college.
5. Everytime I see the HP commercial, I think it's Diddy and not Jay-Z until the end.

I was gonna say Jay sells out more than B, but she has that walmart commercial...I really want to like their new song but I don't think I can. His voice in that commercial sounds like someone doing a bad impersonation of him.
I know Dirk had some impressive performances, but this series confirmed my theory that Dirk is the opposite of clutch in truly important moments.
