Playoff Eve

It's the last day of the regular season and just a few days until the ridiculous 2 months of NBA playoff basketball. (Ridiculously excellent if you ask me.) League Pass is giving me a great sendoff with a full docket of exciting games. The craziest matchup is Toronto/Cleveland, which will help decide whether the Cavs or the Nets get the coveted (at least until they get swept by the Heat) 8th spot in the East. But as Sports Guy and ESPN have noted, all of Toronto hates Vince Carter and therefore the Nets with a fiery fiery passion for mailing it in over the past year in Toronto and then moving to NJ to play his jerky little heart out. Will Toronto get revenge by in turn mailing it in vs. Cleveland? It's doubtful, especially since the hapless Cavs probably couldn't even take advantage of a thrown game at this point, but it's still interesting.

The Sixers playoff positioning will also be determined tonight. A win vs. the Hawks and a loss by the Pacers puts them in 6th matched up with Boston, which isn't such a bad place to be. Congratulations A.I. on an excellent season despite some uneven results, and thanks for almost single-handedly willing the Sixers into the playoffs.

As Jim O'Brien said, I could not imagine life without Allen Iverson.

    Preach, Sista, Preach!

I am so excited!!! Last year, I was absolutely glued to the TV during the playoffs. At first my roommate was going to kill me but then suddenly get enraptured by the drama of NBA playoffs! There were many a late night watching overtime games from the West Coast.

It's going to be so different this year -- so many teams have dramatically changed. It'll be disorienting, y'know??

I am jealous that you have League Pass. Sounds really cool. I so hope we play Boston in the playoffs. That'll be hot!

And yes, I join you in condemning Colleen's talk about AI leaving Kyle Korver doing jumping jacks at the three point line. Easy Col, easy! AI assists those who can shoot. And when Kyle's hot, AI gets him the ball.

PS -- True or False, Kyle Korver looks like he could be Ashton Kutcher's cousin?

I'm excited to dish NBA playoff talk over the next couple of weeks...

People are always hating on the NBA - There's no defense, No heart, bladdy blah blah. They need only watch an entire NBA playoff season to see how exciting, how heart-filled this game is!!!!!!!!

and yes, I can not imagine life without AI. I'm nervous for the next era of Philly Ball -- Who will take his place?

TNT knew what it was talking about when it changed it's slogan to "DRAMA" based on its rights to the Western Conference playoffs. I'm excited for these playoffs, I think all the new teams will be great. I'll miss KG, but otherwise I'll take a bunch of unknown sharpshooting Sonics over the tired old Lakers any day. I would have been a tad more excited if the Sixers had snagged #6. Stupid Pacers. Reggie didn't even get the winning shot to make it a memorable last game!

I'd be interested to meet some of the millions of NBA fans everyone talks about; they're certainly not in this area. Whenever I say I like it, people either think it's funny or they get angry because they hate the NBA for 1 of 2 reasons: games are irrelevant until the last 2 minutes or the players are arrogant and make too much money, which really both are true of any pro sport and are actually what make me like it so much. (The personalities at least, maybe not thinking about them making more in a quarter than I make in a year.) Either way Laura, I'll be with you in spirit starting at 3pm Saturday.
