Jcrew

(This is more something I need to get off my chest that anything I feel will be remotely interesting to my readers.)

Background: since Jcrew came under management of former Gap's former honcho a year or two back, they've held a FINAL SALE every season, where they're overpriced yet lovely fashions are so deeply discounted that everyone on the Jcrew email list rushes to the website as soon as the sale emails go out. The website consequently gets overloaded and by the time you can view the sale items they're sold out.

So, I got said email a few weeks ago, rushed to pick some things out, and decided to wait until I got home from work to purchase b/c then I could use my gift card. Plus, shopping online at work is one thing, but purchasing is a whole other thing. Naturally, this was extremely foolish b/c according to jcrew the items were sold out by the time I got home. (To add insult to injury, Cynthia Nixon was wearing the exact sweater I wanted on ER last week! Granted she was a harried mother of like 9 in the episode and I may or may not want to portray that image, but still, I was mad.)

Tuesday of this week, I went back to Jcrew.com to check for any new sale additions. I found one, added it to my cart, and found that not only was this sweater still in my cart, it was now an extra 20% off! I decided to try my luck and checkout. No "sold out" messages....To my surprise, the items arrived at my doorstep yesterday! Moral of the story: never trust jcrew. And even if they're doing things right, tell them they're not and they'll give you free shipping.

Bonus moral, not attached to any story: always try to say you're a student. I've found many companies will give you a discount and ask for nothing (like an id) in return.
